Photography
Photography is more than just capturing moments for me – it is a dialogue between light, form, and time. In my photographic work, I don’t seek the obvious, but the interspaces, the fleeting moments, and those details that are often overlooked.
My works emerge from an inductive gaze. I begin with the inconspicuous, the detail, and from there I let my personal narrative of the place emerge. This way of seeing characterizes all my photographic projects, whether in Venice, Sicily, or other places that inspire me.
When I photograph, I reduce until only the essential remains. A decayed window, light reflections on water, the patina of old walls – in these seemingly incidental motifs I often discover a universal language of silence and contemplation.
Venice remains a place of particular fascination for me. Here the Venetian term ‘Gibigiana’ has shaped me (cf. Wolfgang Salomon: Venice and the Lagoon – for Advanced). This term describes the light reflections of the water, the constantly changing colors and moods. This Gibigiana embodies my photographic philosophy: the patient perception of change, the surrender to time, and the discovery of poetry in the transient.
In my more recent works, I increasingly experiment with overlays and with the connection of photography and craft techniques, such as the instant film lift technique or the combination with watercolor painting. This synthesis opens new visual worlds for me beyond the digital dominance of our time.
